How Onboarding Works

A guided flow that takes minutes. Your number stays active throughout.

Start Embedded Signup

Begin the connection flow and choose "I already have a WhatsApp Business app account" when prompted.

Enter Your Number

Enter the phone number registered in your WhatsApp Business app. A verification code will be sent to you.

Confirm in the App

Open WhatsApp Business app → tap the message from the official Facebook Business account → tap Connect to Business Platform.

Paste the Code

Copy the verification code from the WhatsApp Business app and paste it into the signup flow.

Share Chat History (Optional)

Choose to share up to 6 months of chat history so your team has full context from day one.

Your asset IDs and token are returned. Messages sent via AssistantLabs and the WhatsApp Business app stay in sync.

1:1 Chats

Individual conversations continue normally. Message history is mirrored between the app and AssistantLabs.

Contacts

All contacts with a WhatsApp number can be synchronized. No changes to how contacts appear.

Business Tools

Catalog, orders, status, and other business tools remain fully available in the WhatsApp Business app.

Linked Devices

You can re-link up to four companion apps (phone, tablet, etc.) after onboarding. Windows and WearOS clients are not supported.

Disappearing Messages Turned Off

Disappearing messages will be disabled for all 1:1 chats after onboarding.

View Once Disabled

View-once messages are disabled for all 1:1 chats.

Live Location Disabled

Live location sharing is disabled for all 1:1 chats.

Broadcast Lists Frozen

Existing broadcast lists become read-only. New ones cannot be created.

Companion Apps Unlinked

All linked devices are unlinked at the moment of onboarding. You can re-link supported ones immediately after.

Messages sent directly from the WhatsApp Business app (1:1) are always free — before and after connecting.

Billed

Messages via AssistantLabs

Messages sent through AssistantLabs are free during an open customer service window. Marketing messages sent outside a service window are billed per conversation.

Set Up Payment in WhatsApp Manager

To send marketing messages you need a payment method linked to your WhatsApp Business Account.

Open Facebook Business Manager

Go to business.facebook.com and select your business account.

Navigate to WhatsApp Manager

In the left sidebar, click WhatsApp → WhatsApp Manager.

Open Payment Methods

Click "Settings" → "Payment Methods" inside WhatsApp Manager.

Add a Credit or Debit Card

Click "Add Payment Method", enter your card details, and save. Meta will bill this card for all marketing message usage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will my existing chat history be lost?

No. You can choose to share up to 6 months of chat history during the onboarding flow. After connecting, new messages are mirrored between the app and AssistantLabs in real time.

Can I still use the WhatsApp Business app after connecting?

Yes. 1:1 messaging through the app continues to work normally. You will also be able to re-link companion devices after onboarding.

Do messages from the app count toward my AssistantLabs bill?

No. Messages sent directly from the WhatsApp Business app remain free. Only marketing messages sent through AssistantLabs outside a customer service window are billed.

How long does onboarding take?

The connection flow typically takes 5–10 minutes. Your number stays active throughout — there is no downtime.
