Is it really a WhatsApp ban?

Two different things get called a ban, and each needs a different response. Check which one you have first.

  • A ban. The WhatsApp Business app shows "This phone number can't use WhatsApp" with your number, and usually offers a review. This guide is about this case.
  • A temporary ban. The app says the account is temporarily banned. WhatsApp ties this to unofficial versions of the app and to collecting data from WhatsApp. Move to the official app and stop using the tool, or the ban can become permanent.

If only one customer's messages stay on a single tick, that isn't a ban. That customer may have blocked you, or their phone may simply be off.

How to request a review

If you think the ban is a mistake, tap Request review in the app. WhatsApp says most reviews finish within 24 hours.

No Request review option means the ban is final. WhatsApp's own help page says such a ban can't be appealed.
  • Contacting WhatsApp another way doesn't help. Messages through any other channel, or from someone else's account, won't speed up the review or change the decision.
  • There is no paid unban. Only WhatsApp bans or unbans an account. Anyone offering to lift a ban for a fee is selling something they can't deliver.
  • A ban also cancels Meta Verified. A banned account loses its Meta Verified subscription automatically.
  • Numbers on the WhatsApp Business Platform (the API) have their own route: the violation and a Request review button are in Business Support Home, and answers usually take 24 to 48 hours.

While you wait

While WhatsApp reviews, make sure customers can still reach you.

  • Tell customers where to reach you. Put a phone number, an email or a site chat on your website, your Google Business Profile and Instagram.
  • Stop using every unofficial tool. Browser extensions that add features to WhatsApp Web, bulk-sending tools and unofficial versions of the app. WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp detects unofficial apps and extensions built on WhatsApp Web.
  • Unlink devices you don't use once the app lets you, and keep only the official app on the phone.
  • Export the chats you can't lose once you have access again. The Israel Internet Association warns that the built-in backup doesn't help an account that is blocked.
If it was a mistake: WhatsApp removes the ban when a review finds it was wrong. Owners in Israel have reported being unbanned and then banned again days later, so keep the other channels up even after the number is back.
Not sure what to do next? We run a Hebrew Facebook community for Israeli business owners on WhatsApp and AI. Ask about your ban there, and read our posts on business verification and two-step verification. Join the community.

The wave of bans in Israel

Since late July 2026, Israeli business owners have reported bans they can't explain. By 3 August Globes counted at least 200 documented cases, and other outlets reported hundreds. The ban notices said spam. Most owners said they had done nothing unusual.

  • Meta says it sometimes gets it wrong. About a wave of wrongful bans worldwide, Meta told TechCrunch "sometimes we get this wrong". It published no cause.
  • It reached court. In September 2026 a travel business filed a motion to certify a class action in the Central District Court, over a ban that cited only "some activity" and offered no review.
  • WhatsApp Web itself is not a known cause. No WhatsApp page names the official WhatsApp Web as a reason for a ban. The documented risk is unofficial tools that connect to it.

So a ban isn't proof you broke a rule. It is still worth making sure no unofficial tool is sending on your number.

Verifying your business

Verifying the business with Meta is worth doing whether or not you're banned. It isn't a fix: no source says it lifts or prevents a ban.

  • Open Security Center in Meta Business Suite, in a desktop browser, with full control of the business portfolio.
  • Click Start verification and enter the legal name, address, phone and website. They must match the legal entity exactly, and the site must load over https.
  • If Meta finds no matching record, upload an official document such as a business licence.
  • Confirm by email, phone, text, WhatsApp message or domain. A decision can take up to 14 business days.
Not the same as Meta Verified: Business verification gives no badge. Meta Verified is a paid subscription inside the WhatsApp Business app, under Settings or Business tools. If it isn't there, it isn't offered to your business. No source says it prevents or lifts a ban either.

Losing less next time

Nothing here makes a ban less likely. These steps protect the accounts tied to the number and keep a ban from stopping the business.

  • Turn on two-step verification in WhatsApp.
  • Use an authentication app for Facebook, such as Google Authenticator, rather than SMS, and keep the 10 recovery codes somewhere other than the phone. A locked Facebook profile can cut you off from Business Suite and the WhatsApp connection.
  • Give a second person full control of the business portfolio, so one locked admin account doesn't stop the business.
  • Message only people who asked to hear from you.
  • Keep a second channel to customers, under your control, that keeps working if WhatsApp blocks the number.

How AssistantLabs can help

Disclosure: AssistantLabs is our product. We connect a business number to the official WhatsApp Business Platform, where violations and limits show in Business Support Home, along with a button to request a review. That doesn't protect anyone from a ban, and we never promise it does.

What it does give customers is another way to reach you. Our AI assistant also answers on your website chat, Instagram and email, so a customer who can't reach you on WhatsApp still gets an answer. Once your number works again, you can put it on the official platform: Connect WhatsApp.
